An Entrepreneur & Dedicated Public Servant
After graduating from Texas A&M University, Greg founded his own dental marketing company. While building a successful business, he made the decision to give back to our great City and ran for the Houston Independent School District (HISD) Board of Education. Little did he know how his life would be transformed as he was attempting to transform the lives of our students!
Wanting to make a significant impact, he began researching and looking at aspects of transformation strategies and initiatives such as teacher quality and school turnaround. The work done in these areas has helped our district achieve national recognition. Having a business background and seeing that HISD needed a strategic plan, Greg led a community-wide initiative in developing a blueprint that would aid the district to focus on core initiatives to transform the lives of our students. Also, during his tenure as president, he helped to bring about bold steps in turning around our most struggling schools. These initiatives resulted in increased academic achievement and, in 2013, the prestigious Broad Prize, awarded to the top urban school district in the nation, was bestowed on HISD.
Since 2010, Greg began to devote his talents to nonprofit organizations providing transformative opportunities for economically challenged families. He was Director of Corporate Work Study at Cristo Rey Jesuit College Preparatory School and Executive Director for Citizen Schools. Currently, Greg is the Chief Financial Officer for Kickstart Kids as well as an adjunct professor at University of St. Thomas where he teaches school finance.
His leadership and passion for our schools was recognized globally and Greg was the first American to receive the education medal from Taiwan in 2017.
